Annual Dinner

2012

The Chairman's Annual Dinner will be held immediately following the 2012 AGM; the cost per head is £32.00 including wine. We are delighted that Brian Hatton, a member of the AELTC, a Vice President of the International LTC of GB, Honorary Member of 22 International Clubs and the VLTC of GB has agreed to be our guest speaker. Brian's love of tennis and jubilant personality will combine to provide an unmissable evening.

Would members please confirm as soon as possible if you wish to attend. Click here to view and download the attendance form, which should be returned to the Hon. Secretary as soon as possible.

2011

Mark Cox entertained us with stories of a life spent in tennis at the very highest levels in the game. You needed to be there to appreciate the joke surrounding his partnership with Tom Okker and the umpire who struggled with pronouncing their names! It's good to see more members attending this important fixture in the club's calendar. Let's hope for a bumper attendance in 2012!

2010

Bernard Weatherill QC spoke warmly of a life involved in tennis, bringing memories of many occasions when individuals in the room and/or known to all, had come into contact with Bernard both on and off the court.

2009

David Norman entertained diners assembled in the President's Room at Queens, with a fascinating history of the inter-relationship between tennis, raquets and real tennis, as experienced through the growth of The Queen's Club. It was particularly interesting to hear how the sport of tennis grew in Britain out of a 'melting pot" comprising Queens, the AELTC and the LTA. Our first lady Members and guests were warmly welcomed by President Ivar Boden and a memorable evening was enjoyed by all.

2007/8

In 2007, the Committee decided to combine the annual dinner with the AGM informal dinner in early 2008. This experiment was felt necessary in order to overcome the problem of declining numbers at the traditional November event. As a result, a successful evening ensued. A unanimous vote in the AGM, led to Lady Members being allowed to join the Club for the first time and those who attended the dinner afterwards were entertained by Tim Phillips' who outlined some of the major developments in the game as seen through the unique prism of Wimbledon.

2006

Held on Wednesday 29th November. Once again, sadly, we were let down at the last minute by our promised guest speaker. Chairman Ray Pierce stepped into the breach and entertained diners with tales of tennis in China, as seen on his recent trip. He then introduced a stimulating debate on the future direction of the VLTC of GB. The range of views was most enlightening and gave the Committee much to think about. Hopefully, next year, the Chairman won't be called on again to save the day!

2005

Held on Tuesday 15th November at The Queen's Club. Members and guests were entertained by Club President Ivar Boden, who stepped in at the last moment when the published guest speaker had to cancel on the day. Ivar's stories were enjoyed by all and it was good to see a strong attendance at this annual fixture.
